Lady ’Horns fall to Dubois in conference

Hallie Ogden got the Lady ’Horns on the board on a strong move and tough shot in the lane to tie things up at 2.

Ogden followed that up by beating a tough Lady Rams press and finishing with the and-one to pull the Lady ’Horns to with three at 8-5.

Kayla Horsen hauled in an offensive board and found Ogden later in the first, and an offensive board and put back by Gabbi Bolli kept things tight at 12-9.

Bolli followed that up with a tipped ball on defense that ended up Ogden’s hands and she went the distance for the lay in to cut the lead to a point, but a buzzer beater by the Lady Rams ended an entertaining first quarter with a 14-11 Dubois lead.

The Lady Rams got hot from the field in the second period and went on a 7-0 run to start things out.

An Ashlee Allen offensive board and put back ended that run, but the Lady Rams answered with a shot from deep and started another big run, this one a 13-3 run to end the first half and take a 36-18 lead into the locker room.

Horsen stopped an 8-0 run from Dubois to start the third with a runner in the paint, and a floater from Jayci Ervin stopped some of the bleeding toward the end of the third, but the Lady ’Horns trailed 50-25 entering the final frame.

Meeteetse started out the fourth with a triple from Ogden.

Kaylin Bass banked in a shot and Horsen added a steal and layup moments later to help cut into a 29-point lead for Dubois.

The Lady ’Horns finished off a strong fourth quarter behind Ogden, Bass and Ervin, but couldn’t whittle down the big lead as they fell to 4-16 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Ogden broke out for 18 points in the loss. Horsen finished with 10, Ervin six, Bass four, Allen three, Bolli two and Sami Cooley one.

The Lady ’Horns stand as the No. 4 seed out of the Northwest at this weekend’s 1A West Regional tournament in Lander. They take on Cokeville on Thursday, the No. 1 seed out of the Southwest.

The winner will face either Riverside or Saratoga on Friday.
