The Cody boys swim team posted a pair of dynamic performances last week, edging Worland in a dual at home, and then finishing fourth overall at the Bruce Gresley Invite in Lander.
Powell defeated Cody on Thursday in a dual, while Cody just got by the Warriors at the Cody Tri.
Joseph Killpack cruised to a pair of first-place finishes, one in the 50 yard free and another in the 500 free.
He also anchored the 400 free relay team that flew to first in 3:49.81.
Myles Bailey helped the 200 free relay team to the top spot after landing first in the 100 fly in 1:04.26.
Bradley McKenzie touched first in the 100 back, while diver Bryson Laing finished strong for second in diving.
Everything came together Saturday in Lander as the Broncs finished fourth out of 15 teams, just behind 3A powerhouses Lander and Buffalo, and Green River.
“I am so pleased with how they swam and dove over the weekend,” coach Emily Swett said. “After finishing eighth out of 10 teams last year, finishing fourth out of 15 teams this year is really incredible.’
The 200 medley relay team of Killpack, McKenzie, Jonah Woods and Myles Bailey are within a half second of the Cody High School team record of 1:46.19 as they finished third.
McKenzie finished fourth in a crowded 50 free field with a personal best of 23 seconds flat.
Myles Bailey added a personal best in the 50 free as well with a 24.50 for 13th.
Killpack had a season best in the 100 fly (55.73) for third, and personal best in the 100 back, breaking his own school record with a 54.73.
“This was the first time our two divers have completed 11 dives,” Swett said. “Bryson Laing finished ninth and Ki Hopkin 23rd.”
Three Cody swimmers finished in the top 12 in the 100 breast, with McKenzie landing third, William Law eighth and Jonah Woods ninth.
The 400 free relay team of Killpack, Isaac Woods, Myles Bailey and McKenzie had a season best to take fourth.
“It’s not uncommon to see swimmers adding time at this point of the season,” Swett said. “This coming week is really the pinnacle of our training and it’s normal for them to be feeling tired.”
That said, fast times and a fourth-place finish at such a big meet makes the results a little bit sweeter and helps sets the stage for a strong run through a jam packed week.
The Broncs travel to meets in Powell, Buffalo and Gillette in a five-day span this week.
