Beer mile is moving to Mentock Park

Because the event had “outgrown” the Park County Complex, organizer Janie Curtis requested the city’s permission to move to Mentock Park, the agenda said.

“Going into 2023, we’ve recognized a need to grow and find a new venue,” she wrote in a statement to city council. “This versatile space will allow us to have an easy and visible running course around the soccer fields, ample parking, separate play areas for kids and flexible room for food trucks, (a) beer garden and games.”

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Cody Beer Mile, and it will include solo and relay races as well as a Philly cheese steak eating contest, Recreation, Aquatics and Facilities Superintendent Mike Fink told the council.

The event was originally started in conjunction with the Yellowstone Beer Festival, but “after five years, this event has taken a life of its own and has become a Cody classic attracting racers and spectators alike,” Curtis wrote.

The Philly cheese steak eating contest will be hosted by The Fresh Prince of Steaks food truck, the agenda said. The truck will also be available throughout the duration of the event serving food to all participants.

On July 21, check-in/registration starts at 4:30 p.m. with solo races starting at 6 p.m. The eating contest will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by relay races at 7 p.m., the agenda report said.

The mission for the event is to “foster and promote a local running community in and around Cody as well as bring in like-minded tourists to increase business and tourism within and beyond Cody,” Curtis wrote.
