Recruitment of production staff for the play “1776” starts Wednesday afternoon in Cody.
The summer production of the musical play about the signing of the Declaration of Independence is currently in rehearsal under the direction of Lynne Simpson and Jan Kliewer.
This production will play June 30-July 2, at Wynona Thompson Auditorium. Curtain time will be at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets go on sale April 15. The play is a non-profit project, which will benefit Cody High School’s performing arts programs.
Coming up this week, a pair of meetings are scheduled to recruit the production staff. The first meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rawhide Coffee House. There will be another meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m.
“Citizens who are interested in participating in “1776” are urged to attend,” Simpson said in a news release.
“The various needs of the production include set building, set decoration and properties. Although costumes and wigs are rented for this play, costumers and hairdressers are needed for fitting and styling.”
Set building takes place mainly on Saturdays. Set decoration is the gathering and making of all furniture, drapes and other dressings. Properties is the making and gathering of personal items for the cast.
Also needed for the production staff are people to assist with public relations, building a web site, historical information, ticket sales and house management.
