Registration for Kids Fishing Day at Beck Lake Recreation Area runs 8-9 a.m. Saturday morning for the annual event.
Kids 14-and-under can enter and compete for free in the fishing derby that concludes at 2 p.m.
Instruction activities begin at 9 a.m. and include learning how to cast, knot flies and how to release a fish.
A free hot dog lunch will be available starting at 11 a.m. Participants will receive gift bags and prizes will also be awarded.
The Cody Optimists Club, East Yellowstone Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Shoshone National Forest and Game and Fish organize and supervise the activities.
Kids Fishing Day also coincides with Free Fishing Day across Wyoming. No fishing license is needed to fish on any waters in the state for the day.
Although all other regulations and limits remain in effect, the day of free fishing is tied to the first Saturday of National Boating and Fishing Week.
However, the license-free opportunity does not apply to Wind River Reservation and Yellowstone National Park.
Also Saturday, a Veterans Family Fishing Event is set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hogan/Luce Recreation Area about 18 miles north of Cody. That is open to veterans, their families and the public.
