The eighth annual Dano’lope’ Dash is Saturday at the Park County Fairgrounds in Powell. The fundraising event features a 10K run, 5K run-walk, 1 mile dash and new this year, an obstacle course.
“We are trying to attract more participants and encourage younger kids to be physically active by offering a new event,” race director Alex Aguirre said. The obstacle course is open to children age 17 and younger. Registrants can also run one of the other events at no extra cost.
The cost of the run-walk obstacle course is $20 for youth and $25 for adults. Registration can be done online at danoyouthcamp.org. A free brunch will be served after the races.
Packet pickup and late registration is June 7, 5-8 p.m., and June 8, 7-8 a.m, at the fairgrounds. The run-walk starts at 8 a.m.
Proceeds benefit the Dano Youth Camp, a nonprofit outdoor wilderness adventure camp. Jerry and Joyce Ostrom started the Dano Youth Camp in memory of their son Dan, who died in a horse-riding accident in the Crandall area in 1996. The camp is offered free of charge to Park County teenagers ages 13-16.
There are four camp sessions held each summer, with about 40 campers total. The camp is open to boys and girls, with both having two camps each.
“There will be awards for all age divisions, door prizes, snacks and great camaraderie,” Aguirre said. “We sure hope folks stick around after the race to socialize and enjoy a great brunch.”
