To qualify, men ages 18-34 had to prove they’d run a 26.2-mile marathon course in 3 hours, 5 minutes or less during an outdoor marathon on or after Sept. 16, 2017. Dickerman qualified October 2017 by running the Omaha, Neb., marathon in 2:59:53.
