Orin Larsen of Inglis, Manitoba made his bareback ride on Make Up
Face a memorable one at the 100th anniversary celebration of the Cody
Stampede Rodeo Tuesday night.

In the first event on Day 2 of the four-day July 4 holiday rodeo named
after Buffalo Bill Cody, Larsen rode as if auditioning for a spot in the
Wild West show of yesteryear.

Larsen’s 93 points set a Stampede Park record, eclipsing the old mark of
91 points by Ty Breuer set in 2013.

While ropers have struggled with recalcitrant calves and barrel racers
have handled the dirt well, but without exceptional times – and been
knocking over barrels at a too-high kill rate – the livestock competitors
have continued to enthrall fans.

In saddle bronc, Cort Scheer of Elsmere, Neb. scored 88.5 points aboard
Bad Intentions to win the night. Not far down the list was Stetson
Wright, the latest entrant from the star-laden family of competitors
from Milford, Utah. Wright scored an 84 in this event for third, but that
was his warm-up for bull riding.

Every other member of the Wright family competes only in saddle
bronc, including brother Ryder, No. 1 ranked on the circuit entering this
week, but who settled for 75 points this time.

Stetson does double duty and electrified fans with a 92-point bull ride
on Judgment Day. He threatened, but could not surpass the overall
rodeo leader Parker Breding of Edgar, Mont., who rode 92.5 Monday
night.

Two sessions remain with competition beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday
night and at 5 p.m. Thursday.
