The learning curve continues for the Cody Legion B baseball team, this time against two Billings squads last week.
406 Flyers 10, Cody 1
The Cubs scored in the first inning on a double by Devon Torczon, but otherwise it was all the 406 Flyers on Saturday in the first game.
Billings scored four runs in the first, two more in the second, one in the fifth and three in the sixth on the way to victory.
“Our defense has to be more aggressive to the ball to help get outs,” coach Beau White said.
Offensively Torczon went 2-3 and Dominic Phillips 1-1.
On the mound, Grayson Beaudrie took the loss, giving up seven runs on four hits through 4 2/3 innings. Will Thomasson pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on two hits.
406 Flyers 11, Cody 8
The second game was much closer, but was called early due to poor weather.
Cody scored five runs in the fourth on four walks and two hit batters.
“Our energy, effort and enthusiasm level were really good, especially in the second game,” White said. “We stayed positive and made a nice comeback in the fourth inning.”
The Cubs first run of the game came in the first on a single by Brady Deming. In the third, two errors, a walk and single by Torczon brought in two more.
“We were able to get a couple of timely hits that produced a few runs,” White said.
The Flyers scored three runs in the first and second inning, four in the third and one in the fourth.
Cody finished with six hits. Dominic Phillips went 2-3, Deming 1-1, Will Thomasson 1-2 and Logan McLeod 1-3.
Phillips started the game and gave up no runs on one hit through 2/3 of an inning. Ben Reinker took the loss, giving up eight runs on eight hits through 3 innings.
Billings 6, Cody 1
An early lead was enough for Billing to take the first game on June 13.
Billings took a 4-0 lead in the first on a triple, double, single, two walks and an error, however the Cubs were able to hold them scoreless for the next four innings.
Post 4B’s final two runs came in the sixth after a walk, error, single and wild pitch.
“Our defense has to work harder to get outs, especially in key situations,” White said. “One of the positives is that our pitchers are throwing more strikes and cutting down on the amount of walks.”
Cody’s lone came in the fifth. Beaudrie was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Will Thomasson.
“We are giving ourselves more opportunities to score runs, but unable to come up with a timely hit or two,” White said. “The team is putting the ball in play and limiting the amount of strikeouts we have.”
Deming took the loss, giving up six runs on six hits through 5 innings. Torczon pitched the final two innings and allowed no runs or hits.
Cody finished with three hits. Deming went 1-1, McLeod 1-3 and Will Thomasson 1-4.
Billings 11, Cody 1
Billings again jumped out in the second game, this time to a 3-0 lead in the first after two walks and a triple.
In the second, Post 4B scored seven more on four walks, three hits and an error. Their final run came in the fifth.
Singles by Chance Moss and Torczon and a walk scored Cody’s lone run in the bottom of the first.
At the plate Beaudrie went 1-1, Torczon 1-2 and Moss 1-3.
Trey Thomasson took the loss, giving up five runs on one hit and five walks through 1 inning. Moss pitched 4 innings and gave up six runs on five hits.
