The Cody Legion B team continues to make improvements as players gain experience early in the season.
Billings 13, Cody 3
Seven hits, three errors and four walks led to 12 runs for Billings in the second inning on game one on June 2.
“We had a hard time finding the strike zone in the first game, specifically in the second inning,” coach Beau White said. “That inning really hurt us. A combination of walks, errors and timely hitting helped them stretch the lead out, but I thought our team stayed positive and kept working hard even though we were down several runs.”
Cody’s three runs came in the fifth on singles by Ben Reinker and Grayson Beaudrie and two errors.
McLeod went 2-3, and Reinker and Beaudrie 1-2.
Will Thomasson took the loss, giving up 12 runs on seven hits through 1 2/3 innings. Reinker pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Billings 8, Cody 5
Cody stayed competitive in the second game.
“The second game was much better, and we were able to keep it close until the end,” White said. “We eliminated some of the mistakes and gave ourselves more opportunities to score runs.”
Three walks and a hit batter gave Cody its first run in the third inning to trail Billings 2-1.
Legion Post 4B scored six runs in the bottom of the frame to take an 8-1 lead.
Singles by Will Thomasson and Conner Moss and a walk scored three runs in the fifth. In the seventh Chance Moss hit a single and McLeod a double for the Cubs’ final run.
“I thought our defense was better in the second game,” White said. “Again, we had one bad inning in the second game that was too much to overcome, but we were able to keep it close throughout.”
At the plate McLeod went 2-3, Chance Moss 1-1 and Trey Thomasson 1-2.
Beaudrie took the loss, giving up eight runs on five hits through 2 innings. Devon Torczon went 4 innings and allowed two hits.
Sheridan 10, Cody 0
On June 4 the Cubs traveled to Sheridan. The Jets scored in all but one inning to win 10-0.
The Cubs got runners on in almost every inning but couldn’t push any runs across.
At the plate Chance Moss went 2-3 and Beaudrie 1-1.
Dominic Phillips took the loss, giving up five runs on four hits through 2 2/3 innings. Conner Moss pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.
Sheridan 8, Cody 7
The Cubs took the lead in game two but lost it in the bottom of the seventh.
“The Sheridan games were very similar to the Billings games,” White said. “We had a bad inning in each game that cost us. We had a lead late in the second Sheridan game, but could not keep them off the scoreboard the last two innings.”
In the third a hit batter and singles by Will Thomasson and Chance Moss loaded the bases. Torczon then hit an RBI single. A walk, passed ball and error scored three more.
Cody added runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 7-3.
Sheridan scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth to tie the game. After loading the bases in the seventh the winning run scored on a passed ball.
Chance Moss went 3-4 at the plate and Will Thomasson 2-4.
Ben Reinker took the loss in relief, giving up one run on one hit in the seventh. Trey Thomasson started the game and allowed three runs on three hits through 4 innings. Torczon gave up four runs on six hits through 2 innings.
