Contractor Shon Simpson, 38, utilizes a Functional Electrical Stimulation Ergometer to pedal a bike as part of his physical therapy treatment at Gottsche Rehabilitation and Wellness. The machine was purchased in July with grant funding and can be used by anyone with significant weakness or paralysis.

Though contractor Shon Simpson, 38, has a spinal injury and paralysis in both legs, he’s able to pedal a bike with technological assistance.
To get started, Gottsche rehab technician Terry Tarbett places 12 pads on the front and back of Simpson’s legs that will deliver electrical stimulation to important muscle groups.
