For the second year in a row the Cody Stampede is sure to draw the PRCA’s top talent in July.

The Stampede event July 1-4 is again a Gold Rodeo on the PRCA Tour.

“The Gold designation means we’re offering at least $20,000 in each event,” Stampede board member Tim Mahieu said. “This assures us the top talent in each event will be in Cody.”

The Stampede is part of the Wrangler Million Dollar Tour and is one of six Gold Rodeos on the tour.

“Stampede points also go toward the participant’s totals to qualify for the season-ending circuit finals before the National Finals,” he added. “Last year we had just about everyone from the NFR in Cody during the four days.”

The PRCA has moved the tour ending to Sept. 30 and the circuit finals will be in Omaha, Neb.

On July 5 the Stampede will host the Xtreme Bulls Tour for the third year.

“Xtreme Bulls has been a boon for us,” Mahieu said. “The TV coverage has provided Cody plenty of national exposure and the event has been great for local fans.

“Last year the top two riders at the time were featured at Old Trail Town,” he added. “It’s a pretty neat buildup to have that and footage of downtown and Yellowstone Park.”

Mahieu said the rodeo and parade committees are busy planning the 2009 events and may announce the Grand Marshal this month.

" Do you suppose we could have some ENTERTAINMENT and maybe a carnival midway to go with all that rodeo ? "
