The Park County Arts Council has been honored for its many contributions to the arts with one of four 2008 Governor's Arts Awards.
PCAC Executive Director Steve Schrepferman said Press Stephens of the Wyoming Community Foundation nominated the group. The Wyoming Arts Council selects the winners each year.
The award was started in 1982 and each year three or four people or groups win an award, he added.
Other 2008 winners are Jerry Palen of Saratoga, Diane Springford of Lander and Tandem Productions of Sheridan.
The PCAC joins Lynne Simpson, a past winner from Cody.
“Lynne won several years ago for work she did while in Laramie,” Schrepferman said. “It's great to be included in such company.”
Schrepferman said the PCAC was chosen for the variety of its activities.
“We were recognized for how we support the arts in Park County,” he added. “One letter said we had stepped up to provide educational opportunities.
“It said we've helped make up for budgets cuts in schools and other groups,” he added. “We provide programs and performances that might otherwise not exist.”
Schrepferman said PCAC is different from other arts councils.
“We are one of only two or three in the state that service more than one community,” he said. “We provide opportunities, especially in Meeteetse, that would not normally (take place).
“We also support other groups and their efforts,” he added. “We offer them a non-profit umbrella to help them gain funding.”
Schrepferman will accept the award during a banquet Feb. 13 in Cheyenne.
The PCAC board includes president Renee Tafoya, vice president Rex Myers, secretary Joyce Feeley, treasurer Meg Kath, Cindy Aune, Laura Crossett, Perry Flom, Gloria Hedderman, Jeanna Kennedy, Lynn Pitet, Anna Sapp, Tim Schoessler and Deb Trotter.
