On Saturday morning the results of more than two years of hard work and fundraising efforts by Korean War veterans from Park County will be unveiled.

The Wyoming Korean War Memorial will go on public display in Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park. It's located next to the Wyoming Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the Greybull Highway in east Cody.

The event will speak volumes about area veterans and their desire to honor fallen comrades.

Cowboy Chapter 307 of the Korean War Veterans has worked diligently raising money to create the state's only Korean War memorial. It lists the names of 60 Wyoming soldiers killed in that war.

Organizers have hosted barbecues, visited businesses and sold commemorative pavers to raise money.

They received a boost from the city of Cody, which donated the land and will maintain the park.

The state provided $300,000 for the memorial and the Republic of Korea showed its gratitude to U.S. veterans with a $100,000 donation.

The veterans are now working with the VFW to create a World War II memorial, which would also be the only one in Wyoming to honor soldiers from that war.

The veterans park has plenty of room for growth and one can envision a memorial for the recent and current Middle East wars being erected some day.

The Korean War is often called “The Forgotten War.” But with their efforts, area vets are ensuring no one forgets these sacrifices.
