Buffalo Bill Art Show preview is Thursday

The public will get its first look at the Buffalo Bill Art Show this week.

The opening reception will be 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in the John Bunker Sands Gallery at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

The free public event will preview more than 100 auction items and many silent auction art works.

Art show committee member Shirley Barhaug was directing volunteers in setting up the show last Friday.

“I've been at this 19 years and have a good feel for what we need to do,” she said. “We'll set everything against the wall in the place we want it, then we'll start hanging on Monday.

“We'll hang on the exterior walls all the way around,” she added. “Then, we move to the stand up panels in the center of the room. Then we'll place the pedestals for the sculptures after that.”

The interior panels have been moved this year.

“We're setting them at an angle this year,” Barhaug said. “We want the room to be more open and accessible.”

The gallery will be closed until the Thursday reception. The art will remain on display free to the public until the auction Sept. 26.
