STEVE SIMONTON recognized by Wyoming Trial Lawyers

Cody lawyer Steve Simonton was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Wednesday at the Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association (WTLA) convention in Cheyenne.

He has practiced law in Cody for almost 35 years and was selected for the honor for having “achieved the highest level of excellence as a general practitioner and trial lawyer.”

The WTLA has given the award only five times in its history; it's the highest honor given by the group.

After earning a B.A. degree from Allegheny College in 1964, Simonton graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1967. The following year he was admitted to practice law in federal and state courts in Wyoming.

Simonton served in JAG with the Air Force for five years. In 1973 he opened a law office in Cody.

He's been awarded the highest professional conduct rating of “AV” by his peers and Martindale-Hubbell. His career includes work as a public defender 1973-75 and deputy county attorney 1975-82.

He has served as an officer and president of the WTLA and currently serves on the board of directors.

Simonton's community service in Cody includes 15 years as a volunteer fireman, 10 years on the West Park Hospital board and eight years on the Park County Travel Council. He currently serves on the Cody Medical Foundation board.

He enjoys visiting with his children, Mike Simonton of Chicago and Shelley Bower of Jackson. He also enjoys fishing, motorcycling and horses.
