Onders wins third straight Casper Marathon title

Bob Onders defended his title in the Sixth Casper Marathon on June 8.

Onders, 35, a doctor in Cody, runs just one marathon a year and has won the Casper race three consecutive times.

He ran with Joe Wilson of Cokeville until about 23 miles into the race. At that point Wilson had about a 15-yard lead, but Onders passed him and finished in 2 hours, 44 minutes and 7 seconds. Wilson took second in 2:49.39.

Onders chose to run the marathon the past few years because his wife is from Casper. He also attended a wedding the previous day.

He is unsure if he will go for a four-peat next year.
