New floor in library cafe rejected

This document was published online on Wednesday, May 14, 2008

The old, but well-preserved, terra cotta tiles in the cafeteria area of the new Park County Library will have to do.

The commissioners Tuesday rejected a change order to spend $30,000 to replace the out-dated, red, 6x4-inch tile.

Buildings Supervisor Mike Vowell said the most recent recommendation was to leave the flooring in place, since the cost of replacements would come from dwindling contingency funds.

He said the existing tiles and grout are in good condition.

Vowell said he also has about nine cases of identical new tiles and can use them to replace any that might be damaged.

Commissioners also rejected part of a $4,595 change order for residential-quality kitchen equipment including two refrigerators with bottom freezers, one for the children's program area and one for an employee break room.

The children's area equipment was approved, but commissioners rejected the refrigerator for the break room, feeling a “regular” refrigerator could be purchased cheaper.

Commissioner Bucky Hall favored keeping the break room refrigerator specified in the order, but was out-voted.

A third change order involving case modifications costing $4,470 in the children's circulation desk and the reference room was approved.
