Stock House sells for $1.1M

The sale of the historic Paul Stock House has been completed.

Mary Lou McDonald of Cody purchased the property for $1.1 million. The sale includes the main house, two guest cottages and a garage on 3.7 acres.

The Buffalo Bill Historical Center announced on Friday completion of the sale of the property at 1300 Sunset Blvd., behind St. Anthony's Catholic Church.

“I hope to keep the house much as it always has been,” McDonald said.

The Stock House was given to the BBHC in 1986. Since that time it's been used as a meeting place for BBHC staff and trustees, and as a location for documentary films and photography.

The guest cottages have provided lodging for visiting scholars, speakers and performers. Recently maintenance and repair costs have increased significantly, leading to the center's decision to sell the property.

Proceeds from the sale will establish the Paul Stock Educational Endowment at the BBHC and will support year-round education programming.

Selected furniture and household articles will be integrated into the historical center's collections. Items not kept by the BBHC will be auctioned at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 1.
