Not even a car accident could stop Johnathan and Theresa Willert's wedding Sunday.

Theresa was driving to her home in Cody with Johnathan's sister-in-law Lisa Willert on Friday night after her bachelorette party in Meeteetse when she swerved to avoid a deer.

“They hit the soft shoulder and rolled Theresa's truck,” Johnathan said.

He grew up in Jeffrey City and Theresa is from Lindsay, Mont. The couple met and fell in love in Cody, where they are making their home.

Johnathan was at his bachelor party in Cody when the accident happened. But he had left his phone in his pickup, so he didn't get the call until Theresa was in the hospital. When Johnathan eventually saw West Park Hospital on his caller ID he was confused.

He returned the call and a nurse said Theresa wanted to talk to him. After a few seconds he realized something was wrong and rushed to be with his fiancee.

Lisa broke her collarbone, but Theresa was more seriously injured. She broke her scapula, two vertebras and bruised a lung. She was sent to Billings for treatment.

“I've been trying to be strong for her,” Johnathan said. “She's going to be fine.

“God has his hand on her,” he added. “There have been people all over this country praying for her.”

With Theresa in the hospital, the couple was uncertain if their wedding would take place. They had one question for the doctor when he came to check Theresa on Saturday - would their wedding still happen?

“The doctor came in the room and said, ‘I don't see any reason why you can't get married tomorrow,'” Johnathan recalled.

He immediately called friends and family to tell them the wedding was a go.

“As soon as they found out, everyone went to work putting up decorations and getting ready,” he added. “They were amazing. We have some wonderful friends.”

They arrived in Cody on Sunday afternoon only hours before the 5 p.m. wedding at Cody Auditorium.

Johnathan and Theresa know they could have postponed the wedding.

“We prayed and felt like it was supposed to go on,” Johnathan said. “We know God has a plan for our lives.”

Despite Theresa's injuries the couple is still planning to take their honeymoon to Switzerland later this year where they will attend the wedding of Theresa's brother.

" Just wanted people to know that even tho Theresa was at a party before the accident there was NO drinking involved. I also wanted to say that both girls were WEARING seatbelts and that had a significant impact on what their injuries were. I have seen the pick-up and God's grace and seatbelts saved their lives!! "

" Theresa and Lisa are a testimony of how God can turn a bad situation into something good that would glorify God. The presence of God was in that auditorium and you couldn't help but thank Him for the miracle he performed in both of those ladies as well as the strength given to both John and Theresa. It was a joyous day and occasion. "
