Cody's Christmas Celebration, featuring one of the largest lighted parades in the state, is this weekend.

“It could be the biggest,” parade chairman Robin Berry said. “I know it's been going on the longest.”

She said about 20 floats are entered and more can sign up before the deadline Wednesday.

“We usually have people show up before the parade,” she said. “Our original deadline was Nov. 30, but that was to get people to enter early.”

The 15th annual parade begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. Berry said she will accept parade entries through Wednesday at her Robin's Nest Bed & Breakfast, 1508 Alger. (Forms also are available at www.codychamber.org.)

Of course, Santa will make his annual appearance at the end of the parade.

Grand Marshals for the parade will be Jane Bell, Marie Schow, Evie Pickering and Elise D'Alessandro, students at Cody High School who for a number of years have conducted garage sales to raise money for the teen section of the Park County Library in Cody.

The parade theme is “A Story Time Christmas.”

Many other events also are taking place during the long weekend.

Downtown merchants have organized a Cody Christmas Stroll 4:40-6:30 p.m. Saturday.

People will gather at Bell Plaza for horse-drawn hay rides and browse through businesses which will offer specials and refreshments.

“Downtown merchants will be doing a variety of things,” Berry says.

There also will be roaming carolers, including “Just Us Four” and CHS choirs Equestria and Synergy.

Absaroka Mountain Cloggers will perform on the porch of the Irma Hotel at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., in addition to the Craig Olson Trio at Pizza on the Run.

There will be a Christmas Trolley Light Tour after the parade at 7:30 p.m.

Comfort Food on KODI will broadcast from the Irma at 9 a.m. Saturday with a special broadcast, “A Comfort Food Christmas Carol,” an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale, with a Wyoming spin.

If you want to take in another classic, visit Cody Theater at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. for a showing of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” starring Jim Carrey.

Admission is free, but people are asked to bring a food donation for Cody Cupboard.

The Decorator's Holiday Open House will be Dec. 7-9 to benefit the new library in Cody.

There are separate day and evening sessions. Tickets for the day session are $10 and $15 for the candlelight tour. Tickets are available at the Cody chamber.

Tours will be Friday 1-5 and 7-8:30 p.m, Saturday 10 a.m., 5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

On the tours people will have a chance to tour the former Olive and Glenn Nielson home at 626 Skyline Drive, a Cody landmark, that will be spruced up for the holidays by 15 local decorators.

There also will be an ice sculpting contest at Bell Plaza 2-7 p.m. Saturday. Featured artists include Jeff Rudolph, Jim Marsico, Linda Raynolds, Gary Shoop and Glenna Fales.

Kids will want to visit Santa in his Western log cabin at the Park County Complex on Stampede Avenue throughout the Christmas season.

Santa will arrive at the log cabin after the parade to visit with children and listen to their Christmas wishes.

Kids will receive candy canes and a free photo with Santa.

Events also are taking place at stores on the Greybull Hill, West Cody Strip and Big Horn Avenue.
