Rodeo queen shares love of Cody - By Richard Reeder

In life, sometimes the second time around is the charm.

For Emily Pfister, her second try at becoming Stampede Rodeo Queen paid off.

“I tried for it when I was 17,” the 21-year-old said. “I was first runner-up and had a great time.

“I think the experience helped me this time around,” she added. “I was more prepared and knew what the judges were looking for.”

For Pfister, the title is a dream come true.

“I love being able to travel and tell people about Cody,” she said. “I'm an ambassador for the town and the rodeo.

“Cody is so fun during the summer,” she added. “And I get to travel the state.”

Pfister began rodeoing at age 6. She continued at Cody High School and was part of the Northwest College team for two years.

“I did Little Britches and then competed on through high school,” she said. “I enjoyed my time at NWC and being part of the team.”

With her college eligibility used up, the barrel racer focuses on rodeos on her own.

“I've been in the Nite Rodeo and travel when I can,” she said. “I love riding and competing.”

She is attending NWC and works as a receptionist at the Hair Affaire. She's living on the South Fork with her parents Don and Sherrie Frame. She also has a brother, Nicholas.

Pfister said the realization of winning really hit her the week after she won during a trip to Texas.

“I was at the George Strait Team Roping Classic and was introduced as the Cody Stampede Queen,” she said. “It was so exciting to hear my name called that way.”

Pfister is ready for the travels her reign will require.

“I'll go to Cheyenne Frontier Days, Mule Days and the Top Notch Horse Sale,” she said. “Plus any other PRCA events in Wyoming I can make it to.”

Part of her duties are to act as a host for visiting queens from other areas. On Monday, she and Miss Rodeo Wyoming spoke at Cody Club.

“I act as their host, drive them around and help get them situated,” Pfister said. “I'm here to make them comfortable and make their stay enjoyable.”

She is excited for the Stampede Rodeo in July.

“I can't wait to be part of the grand entries and the autograph sessions,” Pfister said. “It's all so exciting.”

But for her, it's all about Cody.

“I want to tell people all about the town,” she said. “I want people to love Cody as much as I do.”
