This document was published online on Wednesday, November 01, 2006

Cody Library's two-day celebration of its Centennial will be Friday and Saturday at Cody Auditorium

Events will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days.

Friday will be dedicated to children and teens, with Saturday activities designed for the entire community, library system director Frances Clymer said.

A popular children's author and retired teacher, Eugene Gagliano of Buffalo, will speak and read from his books in two programs Friday.

A program at 10:30 a.m. will focus on children in grades K-3, while a second program at 1 p.m. is for children in grades 4-6. (There is no school Friday.)

At 3 p.m. entertainer Val Geissler will play the guitar, sing, recite cowboy poetry and tell stories of the Old West.

A climbing wall will be set up, and Friday's celebration also will include a day-long visit from Joy the Clown plus games, face painting, crafts, book displays and readings for all ages. Refreshments at noon will include pizza and juices.

On Saturday, operating on an open house format, the library celebration will feature displays tracing the history of the library.

In addition, there will be a book sale and demonstrations of eAudiobooks and library databases.

There will be book signing, open mike readings and book sale opportunities as well as library-themed games such as “Bookopoly,” in which players investigate the world of classic literature by buying, selling and trading while learning about the authors.

Other book trivia games also will be available for testing book knowledge.

From 1-4 p.m. Saturday Josh Paredez and friends will perform jazz and eclectic contemporary music.

Refreshments will be served throughout the day and door prizes will be awarded.

Past employees of the library have been invited to attend the Centennial celebration as honored guests.

“Local authors also have been invited to participate,” Clymer says.
