Celebrating 100 years of its existence, the Cody Library has planned two days of events, food and activities for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
Events will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Cody Auditorium both days.
Park County Library System Director Frances Clymer says activities Friday, Nov. 3, will be dedicated to children and teens, who have that day off school. The entire community will be the focus of Saturday events.
A popular children's author and retired teacher, Eugene Gagliano of Buffalo, will speak Friday.
Gagliano, known as the “teacher who dances on his desk,” lives with his wife Carol at the base of the Bighorn Mountains.
He's the author of “C is for Cowboy, A Wyoming Alphabet,” and “Four Wheels West, A Wyoming Number Book.”
Gagliano was one of the featured children's authors at the recent Equality State Book Festival in Casper.
“In Cody, Gagliano's presentation will be interactive, fun and informative in an entertaining way,” Clymer said.
“Children and adults will have an enjoyable time learning how an author uses the five senses to get story ideas, how an author shows and tells in writing, and how characterization is like putting on a hat.”
Friday's celebration also will include a visit from Joy the Clown plus games, crafts, book displays and readings for all ages. Refreshments will include pizza and juices.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, Cody Auditorium will be the scene of activities geared to all ages, Clymer said.
Informative displays will be set up tracing the history of Cody Library.
In addition, there will be a book sale and demonstrations of eAudiobooks and library databases.
Refreshments will be served.
“Local authors have been invited to participate,” Clymer said.
There will be book signing, open mike readings and book sale opportunities.
In addition, library-themed games such as “Bookopoly,” in which players investigate the world of classic literature by buying, selling and trading while learning interesting facts about the authors. To play, they roll the dice and advance to “Read,” collecting bookstores and trading them up to acquire libraries.
“Or they may be thrown out of the game for three turns and sent to ‘Watch TV,'” Clymer said.
Other book trivia games also will be available for testing book knowledge.
Refreshments will be served and door prizes awarded.
Past employees of Cody Library also have been invited to attend the Centennial celebration as honored guests.
Clymer says former library employees who have not received invitations by early this week may have inadvertently been omitted and are asked to call the library.
